A New Senator . In A New District . For A New Senate!
Like many of our friends and neighbors in the western suburbs of Des Moines, my wife and I moved here and quickly fell in love with the people and the community. And now, 16 years later, we can’t think of a better place to raise our two daughters – they’re both Iowa-born and corn-fed (they love it when I say that).
I was born in Connecticut, spent my early years in Rochester, N.Y., and grew-up in Southern California, which included college. It was at Azusa Pacific University where I met my beautiful and amazing wife, Cathy. We were married in November of 1988, and together we moved to San Jose, CA, and then Phoenix, AZ. My career ultimately brought us to West Des Moines and Clive.
Along with a good friend, I co-founded Point of Grace Church in 1995. What started as a small gathering in the West Des Moines Holiday Inn has grown into a dynamic, contemporary church with over 2,000 attendees and a 58,000 square foot facility in the beautiful city of Waukee.
We know God has led us every step of the way, and we also truly believe much of this has happened because Iowa is such a special state. With a remarkable family atmosphere, good schools and churches, limited crime, very little traffic and great industry, we believe Forbes Magazine got it right when they ranked Des Moines metro as the #1 City for Young Professionals 2011.
We love this area, and we love this state! The state of Iowa is rich in education, healthcare, work ethic and generosity. We are the largest corn producer in the United States and the largest ethanol producer in the world. We are dominant producers of alternative energy, including bio-fuels and wind energy. How about our livestock? Iowa farmers produce some of the greatest beef, pork, and poultry in the world. And agriculture-based products aren’t even our largest industry – it’s insurance and financial annuities. How could you not love this state?
Our goal is to keep this state strong and improve it for generations to come!
